Tricky Tragedies

In the heart of Midtown Miami Wynwood Art District - alongside powerhouse art fairs like Art Basel, Art Miami, Scope and Miami Project - SPECTRUM showcases innovative new art in an elegant, gallery-style exhibition space. The juried, contemporary art fair in the heart of Midtown Miami is featuring an international slate of artists and galleries.

Wynwood Art District is the home to more than fifty galleries, five museums, seven art complexes and many art fairs and studios. Global art lovers enjoy discovering this district and named it one of most stylish neighbourhoods in the world.

SPECTRUM showcases the best innovative, contemporary art from 50 top galleries and 50 juried studios representing talented artists. It is an important event for all serious collectors, curators, museum directors and interior designers providing an intimate look at some of the most important work at the forefront of the international contemporary art movement.

A lifelong fasciation with photography, video and film projects shapes the work of Anna Paola Pizzocaro, who’s photograhy series Unanswered Prayers is shown at SPECTRUM Miami. Born in Milan (Italy), Anna Paola Pizzocaro gratuated at the New Academy of Fine Arts Milan. In Paris she obtains a post diploma at the Elite University École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and a MFA on Film Aesthetics at the prestigous Sorbonne University.

She was involved in a lot of projects and productions worldwide such as the famous movies by Roman Polanski and Luc Besson. In New York she was working as Digital Director in the team of LaChapelle. Amoungst her countless art exhibitions it should mentioned, that her photographies were exhibited at Louve Palace Paris in 2013. The series is attracting curators’ attention, so that the Southern Museum of Fine Art, Las Vegas added selected works for the permanent collection. About her aesthetic concept the New York based artist explains:

“My photos editing remains nevertheless sophisticated, basically my idea is to have a witness to the event who would take instant shots because he is there, sees the flood in a New York apartment with flamingos and zebras wandering through the rooms or when seals are playing in the rooms of mirrors and have fun while the tragedy is actually happening and the water is rising.”

There is no doubt that Anna Paola Pizzocaro beliefs in the image and its power to move the viewer. It is the way images could be edited together to create shocking and fantastic associations in order to affect the viewer emotionally and to open up the imagination.

In this sense Pizzocaro’s work is like a journey through some unknown metaphysical reality. There is a purposeful equivocation poised between the physical and the metaphysical that endures in animals in a flooted loft – these images, designed to delight and shock, capture the essence. Her work is based on the belief in the superior reality of certain forms of association neglected heretofore, in the omnipotence of the dream, in the disinterested play of thought.

Finding its sources in film, cinema and current cultural contextes, Anna Paola Pizzocaro intends to depict art-making as an activity symbolic of the buried potential of human existence. In her series the struggle for harmony between the analytical will, the rational mind and irreal receptivity appears as a subterranean staple of every human personality, every man or woman a potential genius by virtue of the miracle of consciousness. Tricky tragedies are awaiting us.
